Josh Peters is a Naarm-based sound designer and composer working across narrative film, documentary, art installation, and commercials. He is especially interested in how sound can be used to manipulate and influence perception, as well as the creative interplay between sound design and musical score. With a background in electroacoustic music and sound art, he brings a unique and imaginative approach to post-production sound.
Josh is highly experienced in film scoring, sound effects editing and synthesis, dialogue editing, foley, surround-sound mixing, location sound recording, and custom ambience/SFX recording. He has worked on a range of projects including the feature-documentary A River in the Middle of the Sky and multichannel installation work Skin Shade Night Day. Most recently, he won the AFTRS Craft Award at Sydney Film Festival 2025 for his score and sound design work on the short film Faceless.
Josh also composes solo music and makes electroacoustic sound-art works for installation and performance. He has exhibited and performed his work both nationally and internationally in spaces such as ACMI, Bus Projects, McClelland Sculpture Park + Gallery, Montsalvat, Space Zero Gallery (Seoul), and Rumata ArtSpace (Makassar, Indonesia).
